Day 2 of the A-Z challenge--Letter B

B is for Bakeapple

Bakeapples are beauitful  golden orange berries that are raspberry-shaped, plump, juicy, and packed with vitamin C. The bakeapple plant, a member of the rose family, prefers the acidic soil of peatland bogs, and is closely related to the raspberry, blackberry, and thimbleberry.  Bakeapples are highly prized for use in jams and tarts, and are considered to be a delicacy.  They are a prized wild crop in Newfoundland and Labrador. In Scandinavia, bakeapples are known as cloudberries.

We happen to be fortunate enough to have a small supply of these beauties in our freezer.  I make up 3-4 cup batches of jam and we savor each morsel.  Bakeapple jam is delicious as a topping for vanilla ice-cream, cheese cakes or plain yogurt.  Sometimes,as a special treat, it is nice to simply pile it on a nice slice of toast--especially when it's homemade bread from a good friend. Yummy ;o)

Happy "A" Day !!

I was really stumped about what to post for the letter A, then I thought about our first cruise back in 2009...to Alaska.  It was breathtakingly beautiful and I highly recommend it to anyone.  We flew to Vancouver, which is a beautiful city, then boarded the Carnival Spirit and went on a 7-night cruise to Alaska.

It was amazing, awesome and addictive....We did another cruise in September of 2011, but I'll blog about that when the letter turns up in the April A-Z challenge!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. We are shoveling out from a surprise spring snowfall, but, hey--it'll soon be sunny days and warmer temperatures and we can all get back to our gardening!

Cheers

Happy Hump Day!!

....and ROD---Republic of Doyle Day !  I absolutely love that show.  The still shots of the harbor and the city are amazing.

Well, I think I'll commit to the A-Z challenge.  A couple of times today, I found myself thinking about what I'll blog about for different letters, so I guess, I'm in.

Did you know that today is Lady Gaga's 26th birthday?  She has certainly made her mark at an early age, that's for sure.  If you haven't already...and I can't imagine anyone that hasn't...take a listen to some of her music.  She is pretty amazing!

I wonder how Gaga would like wearing this lovely outfit from 100 years ago!!!.....

Gotta go---ROD is coming on!

Good night ;o)

Phew, Tuesday is done!

It was a long day at work, really busy after being out of the office since last Thursday.  I was pretty much caught up by the time I left at 4:00 o'clock though.

The drive to work this morning wasn't great. There was freezing rain and drizzle all night, so the highway was slippery and slushy all the way.  What normally takes 30 minutes took me about 45 this morning.

There was a great treat waiting at my desk though.  My good friend and co-worker, Kathy M made bread on the weekend and she had brought me a loaf.  Oh, it was so light and fluffy, absolutely sinful!

When I got home from work, neither of us were really hungry so I made a small pot of French Onion Soup .   A thick slice of Kathy's home made bread toasted was the perfect thing to top it off!

I am seriously thinking about the A-Z bloggers challenge for April .  I think this would be a good way to really get into posting and learning my way around my own blog,  Not to mention how much fun it will be to try and come up with a topic for the 26 days of April, excluding Sundays that start with the letter of the day. For example on Day One, I'll post a topic starting with "A".  On Day Two, it'll be "B", and so on.  I only have a few days left to make up my mind!

Oh well...I'll have to relax a bit now and think about that.
