Fireworks!!!

I love fireworks and I look forward to the Gambo Day/Smallwood Days festivities every year.  Our little town puts off a spectacular fireworks show on the night of our civic holiday.  It is always on the last day of the Smallwood Days celebrations, which is Monday, at 10:00 PM sharp.  Everyone in town comes out for the show.  So, if you're in the area this year on August 6, check it out, you won't be disappointed, I promise!

I'm looking for some hints on photographing the fireworks.  I think I'll do a better job this year, as I've been reading my owner's manual and have learned quite a bit from that.  However, I want to share a few shots from last year.  These are by no means great, but I want to give an idea of how spectacular the fireworks display was.......

We had the best seats in the house last year.  We sat on our friend Wilson's back deck, right on the river facing up towards the Interpretation Center and the old railway trestle.  We shared drinks, great food, and lots of laughter, while watching this fabulous show.

I hope to capture some really good photos this year that I can share on my blog.

Have a great week, everyone!!

  1. We couldn't have any fireworks here in the Commonwealth this season, to dry and to much risk for fire. Lots of disappointed folks all around. Taking night-time photo's is all in the settings for the camera I think, my camera came with a 200+ page book, I'm still working on the daytime photo's. Sorry I don't have any advice for you!

  2. I do know that I should have probably used a tripod. The lens is open for quite awhile during nighttime shoots, therefore any little bit of movement causes a blur.

We had quite a dry spell here too, but we've had a batch of rain over the last two days, so hopefully there won't be ban on fireworks for this year's festivities. I will be using a tripod this year and I am working on which setting would be best.....maybe I'll try a couple different ones.

So good to hear from you....Cheers!

  3. I wasn't able to do very well at all with the new camera. With my old camera, it was hit and miss... a lot of misses.

  4. Kathleen, you really need to consider enabling your email. If you don't know how to do it, just ask, I'll be more than happy to help. If you just don't want to do it, that's okay, but it helps your followers, because they KNOW you responded without having to subscribe to ALL your comments, or remember to come back and check... and also helps you build a personal rapport with them.

It's not hard to tell I wasn't born and raised in the technology/computer era...ha ha!

    6. I haven't seen your email address show up, yet, but it's great that you are getting your comments to your email. I'm not sure why it isn't showing up to me, with your address? (Whatever you do, don't get stressed over it... we WILL get it figured out) Can you see my email address on MY comment? If you can, EMAIL ME and I'll tell you a couple of things to try.

The only way I'm getting these is because I subscribed to your comments.
