Boil-Up

Today was one of those awesome winter days.......sunny with a nice warm temperature of -2 C.  It's the kind of winter day when everyone packs up a lunch and hits the snowmobile trails to go off and find a nice cozy spot in the woods to light a fire and have a "boil-up".  Well, there is one small problem---we have no snow left!!!!!  Earlier this week we had warm temperatures and rain, so the snow really took a cutting.  However, where there's a will, there's a way!!

We packed up the Rhino and hit the trails.  We wore our snowmobile gear and buckled up for the ride.  It was beautiful with the sun shining and so peaceful on the back trails.

We traveled about 10-12 miles on the old rail-bed and then took a detour out towards
Denny's Pit for our lunch.....

Roger cut up some old fallen trees and got the fire going......can you believe there's
no snow and it's February???

Is there anything more relaxing then an open fire, waiting for that old kettle to boil............

Those fish are kippers that Roger smoked this past fall....yuuummmy!!!!!!

This fish was actually 'melt in your mouth' delicious.....just the right amount brown sugar was
added to these before they were smoked.  I dare to say that the finest restaurants in the world
would love to have smoked fish this delectable on the menu.

The whole outdoor experience here in Newfoundland is priceless.....especially in winter.

Of course, no fire in the woods at this time of year is complete without a hot
drink....today, it was hot chocolate.....

Yummy!!!!

A nice hot bubble bath will make this day perfect.......hope you all had a great Sunday too.
Cheers
:o)

  2. What a beautiful pic-nic! That fish looks delicious indeed! Such a beautiful scene you show here in your photos! I was saying to myself..aahhhh!! Lovely!! Our snow is mostly melted here in SD. It will be around 45 degrees farenheit tomorrow so it will melt away the rest of the snow. There is more snow promised for next weekend. Thanks for sharing this lovely post!
