Gazebo construction has started!!!

Well, I've been talking about this for awhile...but it has finally started!  As with any construction job...there are always delays.  This project was delayed for a week because of a forest fire in the area that Roger was involved with.

On Tuesday evening, one of the big trees in the back yard had to come down.  Our neighbor Dave, and Roger set to work and got the ladder up to remove as many limbs as possible before they cut the tree.  This was to prevent any limbs from hooking into the eave of the garage when it fell.

After the lower limbs were removed with a small electric saw, one end of a heavy cable was attached  to the tree and the other end was attached to Roger's truck.
As Dave cut the tree with a chainsaw, Roger slowly drove off, pulling the tree onto the driveway.....
I had lots to clean-up from the tree removal.  On Wednesday evening, Roger completed the foundation work.  He had most of the preliminary work done.  We are now ready to put on the floor.  Roger is using all pressure treated lumber.

Here is a picture of the gazebo we are building....

Our gazebo will be totally screened in, with a screen door.  Roger is also making panels of glass to put in place during the cooler season so we can use it right into fall and again in early spring.  The dimensions are 12' x 16' .  I'll post progress pictures every coupe of days.  I can't wait to pick some new garden furniture to go in it!!!!

Do you have any new garden projects under way???

    1. This is replacing a large deck that we used to have a screen gazebo on. We had it for about four summers and it was awesome. We practically lived out there. We had the barbeque in there and a large patio table and six chairs. The deck was getting old and needed some floor boards replaced, so we thought...why not?? Roger is an awesome carpenter and will build the entire thing, so that eliminates having to hire a builder.

I get bad reactions to fly bites, so it's the only way I can enjoy outdoors in the summer during fly season...which is practically all summer long here in Newfoundland. On weekends, we usually have breakfast, lunch and supper out there...then we have friends out there at night and have a fire in the outdoor fire pit. It'll get lots of use, for sure. We'll be able to use this one right into the colder season and start using it much earlier in the spring with glass panels replacing the screens.

  3. That gazebo is going to look amazing. I love that design. And the idea of having the window is such a great idea to extend the season. Down here my friends that have them put fans in them since it's so hot but of course you don't have to worry about that! Good luck with the construction..

  6. Hi there

    Thanks for stopping by.

I'm not sure how many changes we'll be making to the landscaping, as the gazebo is sort of squeezed in where our old deck used to be, so we may be quite limited. We will add some things after the gazebo is completed, though.

Stay tuned for pics of the progress and the finished product.

    Cheers
