Picturesque Portugal Cove-St. Philips

We decided to take a little drive on Sunday.
There are so many pretty places to visit on the Avalon Peninsula.

Portugal Cove-St. Philips ranks right up there.

High winds make for high seas

We have had exceptionally high winds recently, and it sure is evident when looking at the ocean.

I went over to Middle Cove Beach this evening to take a few snaps. If you scroll back a few posts, you can do a comparison.

For me, there is something, almost hypnotizing, about watching and listening, as the waves crash against the rocks.  I have a feeling I'm not the only one, judging by the people on the beach, and still arriving, to have little fires while admiring the majestic ocean, in all her glory.

Quidi Vidi Village

I am amazed every time I go to this beautiful little village.  It's hard to believe it is right in the city of St. John's.   It is truly like stepping back in time.  I just love it so much.
It reminds of going for holiday visits to my father's home, when we were children.  We would have to drive, for what seemed like days, and then take a ferry over to the beautiful island of Greenspond.

Torbay Sunset

Even though it's still pretty cold, there are hints that spring is just around the corner.
I am also getting back into my "outdoor" walking routine.  I walk during the winter months at an indoor track, but there is nothing like the cold fresh air and the breeze blowing on your face.

Here is a pic that I took this evening..........

Long time away..........

Hey there

I'm back!  It's been almost 11 months since I last posted.

I never thought I would ever be too busy to continue with my blog, but boy, was I wrong!!

We actually sold our house and bought a condo!!  Quite busy with all that, but we are pretty much all settled in now.  We live much closer to the city, jobs.....and most importantly-family!!

Our granddaughter turned two last month and she is such a joy!!!  She is fabulous and has us literally spellbound!

I will start getting out and about to do some photography soon---the weather is starting to warm up here. After all, it is SPRING!!!!

Well folks---going to sip a tea and catch an episode of Caught

Good night!

Small Icebergs in at Flatrock

I hope I am not boring you with so many posts about ice, but there's lots of it here....so I'll share!
I went for my evening walk out toward the ocean, and was surprised to see that all
of the sea ice that was packed in tight to the shore yesterday, had moved off, leaving
some lovely little bergs behind.

It was too pretty not to shoot, so I called hubby,
to drive over with my camera before the darkness came.

I'll let the pictures do the talking.......

After the ice storm

After steady freezing rain and drizzle since Thursday, Hubby and I dreaded to
go outside to assess the trees.
Much to our surprise, it looks like Mother Nature just did a bit of "pruning" for us.
Thank goodness, it was not near as bad as we expected!

Thankfully, it has warmed up and the rain has stopped.  Iit is up to 1* C now, so hopefully
most of the ice will drop off before the evening cool.
The ice dropping off of the trees is almost deafening out in the yard now, but a
very welcome sound all the same!

We have sun in the forecast for the coming week and warmer temperatures....
maybe spring is coming!!!!

Have a great week.

Ice, Ice, Everywhere!

We are right in the midst of some nasty spring weather here.  We have had steady
freezing rain for most of the past 24 hours, and the weatherman says it'll go on
overnight with high winds.

On my drive home from work today, I was amazed at how beautiful everything
 looked, covered in ice.
I grabbed my camera and headed back out to get a few shots.

Here is one of the side roads that I pass each day.
It makes me imagine a beautiful log cabin in beyond the trees, with a fire
burning in an old wood stove, and the smell of strong coffee in the air.

This fenced area gets me every time I drive by, no matter what time of year, but today
it was breathtaking!

I hope the temperature rises soon, or the rain stops.
If this goes on much longer, the freezing rain may cause damage to the trees,
and possibly put some power lines down.

Have a great weekend, all!
Cheers

Pretty Pouch Cove

Hubby and I couldn't resist a early morning stroll around Pouch Cove on Easter Sunday morning.
We were having family over for the Easter feast around 4, so we grabbed the
chance to get outside and enjoy some sunshine.

Pouch Cove is about 10 kilometers east of where we live, and it is literally right
on the edge of ocean....nothing east of there.

Take a look........

There is always somewhere spectacular to walk...only minutes from our house.
We'll never get tired of the awesome scenery around here.

Cheers
